Special Education Teacher
Elementary Self-Contained Program
Focusing on Functional Skills for School Readiness & Success
Target Ratio: 8 Students 1 Teacher 2 Aides
Kaiser Elementary
Qualifications:
- Valid current Michigan Teaching Certificate with SA or SV Special Ed endorsement.
- Willingness to seek certification may be considered.
- Demonstrated organization, planning and classroom management skills.
- Experience working with special needs children.
- Specialized academic preparation
- Work history exhibiting outstanding work habits including work attendance and positive communications.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working with children with Autism.
- Training or willing to train in nonviolent crisis intervention (CPI).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Regular and reliable in-person attendance is an essential job function.
- Work with students to provide subject area instruction.
- Develop, implement, and collect data regarding academic, social and behavior interventions.
- Collaborate with larger team to problem solve (including guardians, county consultants and outside service providers)
- Evaluate and test students.
- Work with individual students to reinforce learning of materials or skills.
- Develop or devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on understanding of individual student needs, interest, and abilities.
- Guide independent study, enrichment work and remedial work.
- Maintain a required record of student work progress.
- Contribute to positive student morale.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal and the Director of Special Education.
